Happy Canada Day to my Canadian followers and readers.  Our country’s holiday follows fast on the heels of Canada Day and I wonder how similar our celebrations are.

What’s your favorite thing to do in the summertime?   Mine always used to be the opportunity to read for endless days.  Of course I have much more time for reading now so I have more summer favorites.

When I was teaching I would still find time to read a novel but it was summer time when I caught up on all the books I had been waiting to read.   Sitting in an Adirondack chair, or lounging on a blanket (in the shade) at the beach, I could be found with a book in my hand.

We never had a hammock but if we did I would have been the one to take it over from early in the morning until dusk, for sure.  That’s why I labeled this post “This Could Be Me” for when you see this new paper-pieced block I finished today you will understand.

This is a continuation of the “In the Garden” quilt along over at Quilt Art Designs.  Janeen designs the most intricate blocks.  They are definitely challenging to complete but what a sense of accomplishment when the block is done!  You can find out about it HERE.

I’m not totally happy with the way the greens came out but the pattern had so many different greens around it that I went with that.   If I decide to do this block over, I will make all the greens the same fabric.   I do love the way the folds of the dress show up with the different values of purple.   How about that hat, eh?

I’m still undecided whether I want to do this block over.  I’m not 100% happy with it but I also don’t love the block construction of this one as much as others I’ve done so I don’t know yet whether I want to redo.   I many not know until I’m done the Quilt Along and have done all twelve blocks.

When quilting, I believe you have to determine for yourself whether you can live with the work you’ve done or whether it bothers you so much that it will keep you from enjoying the finished product.   I’m not there yet.

Here’s hoping you have a chance to swing in a hammock today with a good book.  I wish this for you!
